Child of the Rising Sun is an interdisciplinary piece that explores identity and its politics. Circumferencing Afro-Asian descent, integration, privileges, assumptions, history, fashion and reflections, the performance centres on the biracial experience of the artist.
The performance is an intersection for collectively engaging a fluid yet seemingly fixed identity in the light of World War 2 (1939-45) in which Japan was directly involved, the Nigerian Civil War, also known as the Biafran War (1969-73), patriarchy and capitalist voyeurism.
Using poetry, performance art, storytelling and sound art, the performance is curated to bring the audience closer to the experience of biracial humans in the process of self-identification.
The performance features Ayankunle Moses as the sound artist and was directed by James Notin.
